Coogee is situated approximately 20 km south of Perth’s CBD, within the City of Cockburn. It is bordered by the suburbs of Munster, Beeliar, and North Coogee, with the Indian Ocean to the west. Major roads like Cockburn Road provide convenient access to central Perth.

History of Coogee

Coogee’s name is derived from the Aboriginal word “Koojee” meaning “place of the water” or “place of the wind.” European settlement began in the late 19th century. 

The first postal office opened in 1957, marking the suburb’s development into a residential area. The first railway station was established in 1956. Early industries focused on agriculture and local services, with many residents working in nearby commercial and industrial areas.
